There is perhaps no other country on earth that has been more misrepresented, lied about, and heavily sanctioned than the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Koreans experienced some of the most severe war crimes and sexual atrocities of the 20th century, first from Imperial Japan and then from the combined forces of the USA and its puppet South Korean government. The Korean people have been cruelly and violently divided on their own land, without their consent, for nearly a century. After all the DPRK has endured, it continues to survive and provide for not only its own citizens but also revolutionary allies such as Cuba, Palestine, and Vietnam. This resource list is far from complete, but it will debunk some of the most common lies about the DPRK that the west uses to justify imperialism, militarization, and sanctions in East Asia.
Hakim makes a detailed video debunking most major myths about DPRK and explaining that most of what we know about them is propaganda fed to us by the western media
Why do North Korean defector testimonies so often fall apart? Defectors are pressured to lie and exaggerate by big media corporations, imperialist governments, and the western media’s endless appetite for shocking stories. Discrimination against North Koreans who live in South Korea plays a role too, as they are often ostracized due to their background and accent.

Is North Korea a “rogue nation” that has uncontrolled and dangerous nuclear capabilities which threaten the globe? Or is this a double standard imposed on North Korea by the rest of the nuclear-capable states including the only country that has actually used nuclear weapons against an enemy, the USA? Kim Jong-Un isn’t some madman — in fact, North Korea is the only nuclear-capable state to agree to disarmament negotiations according to the the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. 54 member states have ratified the treaty. All states with nuclear weapons aside from North Korea have explicitly stated that they are not interested in limiting their own nuclear proliferation.
It’s commonly believed that North Korea is extremely militaristic, only spends on war while starving its people, and poses a major threat to the US and the rest of the “free” world. A graph of military spending and casualties tells us that’s not the case.

Hakim talks about how defectors like Park Yeonmi are hardly unique, but rather part of a trend of fake atrocity propaganda that includes the Nayirah Testimony and George W. Bush’s infamous lie about WMDs in Iraq
Screenshot and meme of contradictory news stories. Western news media outlets choose the most shocking stories about North Korea they can find, and they often conflict because they have no real evidence to back up these false headlines.
